ISLAMABAD, Feb. 25 (Xinhua) -- The living compound of the former al-Qaida chief Osama bin Laden in Pakistan's northwest city of Abbottabad is being demolished, said one local media report. Local Urdu TV channel Express said that the front part of bin Laden's compound has been demolished and three heavy machines are taking part in the demolition work.
But there is no official confirmation about the report yet.
Local media quoted residents in the area as saying that all the roads leading to bin Laden's compound have been blocked and a lot of heavy machines are seen moving near the living compound of bin Laden.
Osama bin Laden's living compound is a three-storied white mansion located in the open green field with mountains sprawling at the distance in Abbottabad, a small quite town lying some 60 kilometers north of Pakistan's capital Islamabad.
On May 2, 2011, the U.S. special task forces launched a raid on bin Laden's compound, killing him inside the house where he had hidden for years. |
