RIO DE JANEIRO, March 23 (Xinhua) -- The Brazilian Ministry of Sports received on Friday a letter from FIFA president Joseph Blatter who expressed his confidence that Brazil will be successful in its organization and administration of the 2014 World Cup. Sports minister Aldo Rebelo personally received the letter from Blatter. The note not only served as a vote of confidence, but also helped to mend the communication between the Brazilian government and the world soccer governing body.
Relations became sour nearly a month ago as FIFA's Secretary-General Jerome Valcke stated that the Brazilian organizers of the 2014 World Cup needed a "kick in the pants" in order to start to take the planning seriously.
After weeks of hard feelings and even threats of FIFA withdrawing Brazil as the host of the 2014 World Cup, both parties appear to have forgotten about the past and are both looking to a bright and successful event.
