1. It was a big night for Rick Santorum, who swept the Republican primaries in Alabama and Mississippi. Newt Gingrich and Mitt Romney finished second and third in both states. But Romney ended up winning more delegates than Santorum among the day thanks to caucus victories in Hawaii and American Samoa. 2. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta is in Afghanistan, meeting with President Hamid Karzai. He's trying to smooth out relations following the mistaken burning of Korans at a NATO military base and the killing of 16 civilians allegedly by a US soldier.
3. A transformer fire forced emergency crews to shut off power to a large section of Boston's Back bay. About 2,000 homes and businesses were without electricity. Many have now had their power restored.
4. And Dallas Seavey has won Alaska's Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race. At 25, he is the youngest musher ever to win the nearly 1000 mile race across the the state. |
