We are learning more about the US army soldier accused of going door to door in Afghanistan,Kandahar Province,Sunday and gunning down 16 civilians.More than half of those victims appeared to have been children.CNN Christopher Lawrence is following the story for us from the Pentagon.

This was a staff sergeant who has served  three tours in Iraq.This is his first tour in Afghanistan.He'd only been in the country for maybe two months or so,not much longer than that.

US military officials say the soldier will not face a criminal trial under the Afghanistan justice system and that any prosecution would be in an American military court.
