BUENOS AIRES, May 6 (Xinhua) -- A 20-year-old Argentine soccer player was killed Sunday when he was shot in the middle of a gunfire between a police officer and alleged criminals in Burzaco, located in southern Buenos Aires. The victim, Lautaro Bugatto, belonged to Argentine first division team Banfield, although he was currently borrowed to first division B team Tristan Suarez.
According to police sources, near 3:00 p.m. local time (0600 GMT), a confusing fact occurred involving a police officer dressed in civilian clothes and at least two criminals.
Bugatto was in his home's front door with a friend when he was shot in the back and died.
The police officer involved in the gunfire was arrested.
"I am shocked with the news, we are all bereaved," said Banfield's President Carlos Portell, adding that Bugatto had an immense future.
Portell said that Bugatto, left wing-back defender, was planned to return on June from Tristan Suarez team to Banfield.
The player had a 2-year-old daughter and was about to be married.
