First up today. A new museum display from Washington D.C. just out this world. At least it has been. The special Discovery reached its retirement home yesterday. Before we talk about that arrival, Johns Reller looks back the shuttle's history and space travel's future. Both your attention, February 24, the last year, the 39 then final left out of the shuttle Discovery. 148 million miles travel over a quarter century. Discovery is now making one last reach, the stars. The oldest of the three orbiters Discovery was the first to be retired. At first light Tuesday morning. This time no worry of rocket engines, just jet engines writing PG back on a 747. Destination perminantly display at the SmithSony in Washington.
I think it's back, come on, I can, I can take this on again, come on, it happens with bar ago again.
The astronauts who flewed Discovery that last time are here to watch a rought.
It's said in that we've done, and, you know, it's going to win if you has to go into the Sony anywhere. Hopefully millions of people over there next ..years and they're going to see Discovery.
The US now realizes on the Russian to fare its astronauts to international space station, cost about 60 million dollars a seat. NASA is stocked with this arrangement for at least the next four years. That's until a commercial company is ready.
I am confident that commercial space will eventually succeed, and do great things. The... 81 company says this company can't be the one does it or succeeds, I don't know that just you don't, I just think all take different approaches.
Spaceks hopes to be that company.
We have lived up the thought ...
It has already orbited its dragon spacecraft around the Europe. At the end of this month the company's tough test state and attempt to run the routes unman dragon and burst to the space station. By then Discovery will be under display. Enterprise A test shuttle which was in the Smith Sony, and will be in New York going to the in tribe museum.
For me personally, once we get Discovery to the Smith Sonion and we've done all the work she's ready to go. Oh, now it's my time to walk a way and lead there. And now start focusing on enterprise, getting any prize to New York, but that can be very hard to lead Discovery for that last time.
At least now every one will have the opportunity to look up close at the space flying machine unlike anything ever built.
Discovery will be formally welcome to the Smith Sonion collection during a ceremony tomorrow. After that people can busy the famous flyer at the museum. The logical has the chance to check at Discovery on its way to that retirement. They gathered around the national mourn or another part of D.C. to watch the shuttle and its carers they approach to Washington. The pilots seem to be happy to a company be crowd circling the mourn a few times for pictures and cheers. Eventually Discovery did come in for landing, not the only shuttle going on display zone. You heard Johns Reller mention ...prizes heading in New York. And ever we'll be in the museum in Los Angeles and Atlantas will stay on display the Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
We want you to watch the leftside ... spring closely here. Or you see that kind of like the sun erupted up some energy, or that was a solar flyer? NASA's solar dynamic labtory calls this on vedio. Look pretty impressive. The scientists say on the scale of solar flyers this one was just medium sized. Sometimes these kinds of eruptions on the sun can have impact here on earth. Not this one now, despite when this happened with appointed away from the planet when the flyer erupted. |
