Neil Diamond Back On Tour
When Neil Diamond turned 71 in January 2012, retirement was the furthest thing from his mind. In fact, today, the singer-songwriter is busier than ever. On June 1, he launched a three-month tour of the U.S. and Canada in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. The tour includes five concerts at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles, California, honoring the 40th anniversary of Diamond's sold-out run of 10 concerts there in 1972. One of those shows was captured on his live album Hot August Night which landed in the Number One spot for 29 consecutive weeks. Fans will hear concert favorites like “Sweet Caroline,” as well as many of the 23 songs from his latest release, The Very Best of Neil Diamond - The Original Studio Recordings. In the liner notes, Diamond adds his personal recollection of each tune on the album. For instance, he reveals that he composed “Sweet Caroline” in a Memphis hotel room the night before it was recorded. He calls it one of his “biggest and most durable hits ever.” Diamond was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2011, alongside Alice Cooper, Dr. John, Tom Waits and Darlene Love. He was one of five recipients of the 2011 Kennedy Center Honors. Diamond has been married three times, most recently to his manager Katie McNeil on April 21 in Beverly Hills. |
