Rock music icon Slash gets star on Hollywood Walk of Fame(在线收听) |
LOS ANGELES, July 10 (Xinhua) -- Hundreds of fans swarmed Hollywood on Tuesday as legendary guitarist Slash received a star on the Walk of Fame, which seemed fitting for the rock music icon who first started playing only 100 yards away. "I'm such a part of this scenery. I went to school here, and started playing guitar here, literally 100 yards down the street," Slash said at the unveiling of his star, the 2,473th on the Walk of Fame.
"I got a very techni-color education from here. I've been a part of Hollywood fabric for a long time, to actually be appreciated by the city of Hollywood, is a huge, huge honor," he said.
The British-American rocker has sold nearly 100 million albums as a member of various groups, including Guns N' Roses, Slash's Snakepit and Velvet Revolver.
In 2010, Slash released his first eponymous solo album, renowned as a roster of all-star guest musicians.
With a Grammy Award for "Best Hard Rock Performance," seven Grammy nominations, and countless other acknowledgements, Slash was ranked only after Jimi Hendrix among "the Ten Best Electric Guitar Players of All-Time" by Time magazine.
The rock star has performed for both royalty and heads of states, including the Queen of England and former U.S. President Bill Clinton. He has recorded and shared the stage with luminaries as diverse as Michael Jackson, Bob Dylan, James Brown and Ray Charles.
After the Walk of Fame ceremony, Slash performed at a private acoustic show at Hard Rock Cafe. His fans were overwhelmed by the opportunity to watch their rock hero's show so closely.
"I've been a Gun N' Roses' fan since my senior year in high school. It was 1988. It became really popular throughout college, so I've been a huge fan," said Justice, a Slash fan who even impersonated him at the site. |
