Guerrero promises maturity and goals at Corinthians(在线收听) |
RIO DE JANEIRO, July 17 (Xinhua) -- Former Bayern Munich and Hamburg striker Paolo Guerrero has vowed not to let his renowned fiery temperament overshadow his performances for new club Corinthians. Guerrero gave his first official press conference to Brazil's media on Monday following a 3.5 million-euro transfer from Hamburg.
During his 10-year career in Germany, Guerrero gained a reputation for his erratic behavior as much as his goal-scoring ability.
The 28-year-old received an eight-game suspension in the Bundesliga last season after a reckless tackle on Stuttgart goalkeeper Sven Ulreich.
In 2010 he was fined 100,000 British pounds for throwing a bottle at a fan.
But the Peru international says his wild days are behind him and now wants to focus on success with the reigning Copa Libertadores champion.
"I'm a temperamental player and I have learnt from those experiences," Guerrero said.
"Now I feel like I am more mature and settled but I will always have that desire to win."Guerrero cited Ronaldo as his idol and said it was an honor to play at the Brazilian legend's former club.
He said he was already looking forward to the prospect of playing against European champion Chelsea in December's FIFA Club World Cup in Japan.
"It would be fantastic to play against Chelsea," he said. "What I want most is to start playing as soon as possible and to score as many goals as I can." |
