RIO DE JANEIRO, July 18 (Xinhua) -- American Chris Weidman wants to challenge Brazilian champion Anderson Silva for the UFC world middleweight title, local media reported Wednesday. The 28-year-old continued his undefeated UFC record last week by defeating Mark Munoz with a second round knockout.
Following the bout Silva's compatriot and World No.3 Vitor Belfort
challenged Weidman to be his next opponent.
"It's great to know that Belfort wants to take me on but I don't want to talk about that now. I only want to think about fighting Anderson Silva," Weidman told Newsday.
Weidman is undefeated in nine professional mixed martial arts bouts.
Silva, who has not lost since 2006, successfully defended his championship belt with a second-round knockout of American Chael Sonnen in Las Vegas earlier this month. |
