Bayern Munich beat Valencia 2-1 at Champions League

 BERLIN, Sept. 19 (Xinhua) -- Bastian Schweinsteiger and Toni Kroos ensured a successful start for Bayern Munich into their UEFA Champions League adventure following a 2-1 win over Valencia at outsold Allianz Arena on Wednesday.

Bayern started powerful into the match whereas Valencia showed absolute no interest to stage any offensive actions. Thus the Bavarians started a run on Valencia's goal but neither Arjen Robben nor Dante were able to open the scoring.
With 37 minutes into the first half, the home side were rewarded for their attacking efforts when Dutchmen Arjen Robben assisted German international Bastian Schweinsteiger inside the box, netting home from sharp angle into bottom left.
After interval Valencia turned up to cause Bayern Munich trouble as Valencia's Ricardo Costa and Sofiane Feghouli ensured the only scoring opportunities for their side.
At the 76th minute Bayern capitalized on a turnover at midfield and Toni Kross found the back of the net with a terrific long rang effort from 20 meters to make it 2-0 on the scoreboards.
It looked like a comfortable 2-0 win as Bayern eased up the accelerator but Valencia's Nelson Valdez scored the consolation out of the blue following a cross in the dying minutes of the match.
Bayern received a penalty at additional time following a foul play by Adil Rami who was sent off for his second bookable offense. Nonetheless, Bayern were unable to extend their lead as Valencia's goalkeeper Diego Alves saved Mario Mandzukic's shot from the spot.
Bayern sit on second position in group F, behind Bate Baryssau, followed by FC Valencia and Lille. "Overall we played good. We lacked in pressure but it was okay for the start. I'm not all that happy with the late goal against us and the squandered penalty," Bayern coach Jupp Heynckes said.
