2. The Curiosity rover is now on Mars. It sent a pair of pictures of the Martian surface back to earth after landing on what a lead NASA scientist describes as a nice flat spot.

 

 

 

3. Some residents of northeast Oklahoma have been allowed to return home after huge fires burned through more than 90 square miles. As many as 18 fires have been reported since last week.

 

 

 

4. And sprinter Usain Bolt overwhelmed the Olympic field, winning the 100-meter dash in an Olympic record 9.63 seconds. Bolt also won the 100 meter four years ago. Carl Lewis is the only other Olympian to win the gold medals in the Olympics' premier track event twice in a row.
