1. Tropical Storm Ernesto spun into Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula today. Hundreds of fishermen fled low-lying villages and thousands of tourists have evacuated resorts. Ernesto hit the region as a hurricane with sustained winds of 85 miles per hour. 2. Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney and President Obama are giving dueling campaign speeches today. They're making the hard sell to working class and women voters, each hoping to cast the other guy as an extremist.
3. China has again swept all four table tennis titles at the London Olympics with a 3-0 victory over South Korea in the men's team final. China has won 24 of 28 gold medals since the sport entered the Olympic schedule in 1988.
4. The Curiosity rover is flooding NASA with new black-and-white pictures of the Mars landscape. The image is being stitched together to make a panorama. Curiosity also sent enough material for a 2.5-minute video of its dive through the Martian atmosphere. |
