The Construction Union has agreed to end its three-week blockade of a building site in central Melbourne and an agreement was reached after marathon talks at Fair Work Australia last night. Despite the agreement, Unionists have gathered at the site again this morning. Police say they are baffled by a shooting that's killed four people in the French Alps. Three members of one family were found shot dead in their car. A seven-year-old girl was seriously injured and her four-year-old sister was found hiding under her mother's body. A local cyclist was also shot dead.
Almost 60 asylum seekers drowned when their boat sank off the coast of Turkey. About 50 people managed to swim to shore after the boat hit rocks in the Aegean Sea. Officials say most of the passengers were from Iraq and Syria.
South Australia has again been battered by wild weather. Winds up to 100 kilometres an hour hit parts of Melbourne overnight. The SES was called to a house in Bayswater after a tree fell on a garage. In Adelaide, black ice on the roads proved treacherous for cars and trucks.
Investigations are continuing into the cause of a fire in a Sydney apartment block. One woman died when she jumped from a burning unit on the sixth floor. Another woman who jumped remains in hospital in a serious condition. |
