The Opposition leader Tony Abbott has met the Indonesian president, but didn't raise his key policy of turning back asylum seeker boats. The country's foreign minster says it wasn't mentioned during Mr.Abbott's meeting with president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono in Jakarta. But the Opposition immigration spokesman Scott Marison has told the ABC he later raised it himself with Indonesia's foreign minister. The prime minister says uranium exports will be on the agenda during talks in India today. Julia Gillard has arrived in New Delhi for her first visit as prime minister. She'll hold meetings with the Indian prime minister and president, Mrs.Gillard says she wants her visit to promote business links between the two countries.
Craig Thomson maintains he did nothing wrong during his time as national secretary of the Health Services Union. Fair Work Australia has laid several charges against Mr.Thomson alleging he misused union money. The 62 alleged breaches include using funds to pay for a dozen separating engagements with prostitutes. The crossbencher MP says he expects the charges to be thrown out.
Scotland is set to hold a referendum on independents in 2014. British prime minister David Cameron and Scottish leader Alex Salmond have signed an agreement to set out terms for the vote. The Scots will be asked if they want to remain in the 300-year-old union with the England, despite agreeing to the vote, Mr.Cameron strongly oppose the breakup. |
