英闻天下——47 UN Agency: About 60,000 Killed in Syria Conflict(在线收听

The UN Human Rights Office says about 60,000 people have been killed in Syria since the conflict began in the country in early 2011.

The report shows a steady increase in the average number of documented deaths per month from around 1,000 in the summer of 2011 to an average of more than 5,000 in 2012.

Most of the reported killings occurred in Homs, where nearly 12,600 people died, followed by rural Damascus and Idlib.

The UN statement says further investigations would be necessary to discover precisely how many people have died, and in what circumstances.

Meanwhile, fighting continues in the country as government forces and armed groups clashed in a military airport in Idlib.
