英闻天下——156 More Boeing 787 Dreamliner Grounded(在线收听

Two Chinese air companies say Chinese airlines are not affected as more countries have announced to temporarily ground Boeing 787 Dreamliners for investigations into battery-related problems.

The U.S. plane maker says Boeing 787s purchased by Chinese airlines have not yet been delivered and these orders will not be affected.

Four Chinese airlines have ordered a total of 41 Boeing 787s, including 15 for Air China, and all of them are awaiting delivery.

Meantime, India has joined Japan, Europe and the United States in grounding Dreamliners.

Indian airline Air India has grounded all six of its Boeing 787 Dreamliners, following a similar decision made by the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration, or FAA.

  Indian Aviation Minister, Ajit Singh:

"What FAA has said is they have issued an advisory worldwide to ground all 787's until they can prove batteries are safe."

The FAA insisted airlines will have to demonstrate the batteries are safe before they could resume flying.

Numerous airlines have dozens of 787 Dreamliners on order, which represents a leap forward in the way planes are designed and built.

The use of new battery technology is among the cost-saving features of the 787, which Boeing says burns 20 percent less fuel than rival jetliners using older technology.
