英闻天下——499 37 People Killed in Iran's Earthquake(在线收听

The death toll from Tuesday's earthquake in southern Iran has risen to 37.

At least 850-others have been injured in the earthquake.

The magnitude-6.3 quake has been followed by over a dozen strong aftershocks.

Most of those killed are in the city of Kaki, which is around 100-kilometers southeast of Iran's Bushehr nuclear facility.

Mohammad Ahmadiyan is the deputy chief of Iran's nuclear power plants.

"Bushehr nuclear power plant can resist an 8.3 magnitude quake even if the epicenter is very close to the power plant. This quake was far too weak and its epicenter was more than a hundred kilometres away from the power plant, therefore there has been no negative impact on the operation and equipment of Bushehr nuclear power plant."

Meanwhile, the strong aftershocks have forced many to spend the night outdoors on Tuesday amid fears their homes may collapse.

"Thankfully, nobody was trapped under, only our whole life has been trapped under there. The whole family are fine."

"The people themselves, different groups took part. We collaborated together so that hopefully we are able to help the victims that are here."

Water and electricity have been cut to the region, which is home to around 10-thousand people.

Authorities in Iran have announced 3-days of mourning for the victims.
