VIENNA, July 10 (Xinhua) -- Austria aims to boost its economic growth by improving the country's competitiveness, the government said in a report entitled "Economic Report of Austria 2013" released on Wednesday.

According to the report, despite an economic crisis, Austrian economic situation remained in relatively good shape in comparison to the other countries.
The country's economic growth rate had exceeded EU average for 12 consecutive years by 2012. Other economic indicators including unemployment rate and public deficit also put Austria above EU average.
However, the report said Austria needed to improve its overall competitiveness to maintain and increase its economic growth in the future.
It said industry constituted an important pillar of the Austrian economy, adding that Austria should especially focus on the development of the high-end industries and R&D-oriented industries.
In addition, the development of technology-based small- and medium enterprises (SMEs) should also be boosted.
Exports would remain important to the Austrian economy. The country should continue to encourage its exports and advance the enterprise internationalization process, it said.
Moreover, Austrian government will improve the market behavior management by modifying its regulations such as the corporate law and competition law.
The Austrian government will also continue to steadily increase its R&D investment to improve its national competitiveness.
Finally, the Austrian government would also improve its labor market by reducing the unemployment rate among the youths, the elderly and women. A two-pronged approach - promoting the economic growth on one hand, and improving the quality of labor on the other hand, will be taken by the government, the report said.
