The votes come more than two months after the storm hit. 2. The US job market proved resilient in December. That's despite fears that the economy would tumble over the fiscal cliff. The Labor Department reports employers added 155,000 jobs, but unemployment remained at 7.8%.
3. Violence continues across Syria. Ground and air forces bombarded rebel strongholds on the outskirts of Damascus and other areas around the country. That as activists say, anti-government forces targeted a military post with a car bomb.
4. And this female polar bear in Germany celebrated her first birthday. She got a cake and a walrus made out of cardboard to play with. She is the half-sister of Berlin's famous polar bear Knut, who died of brain damages in 2011.
