Gang Rape Suspect Arrested in India(在线收听) |
Indian police has arrested a second suspect, after the gang rape of a photojournalist in Mumbai.
Thursday's attack has triggered protests and an outcry on social media, with many users shocked that it took place in Mumbai, widely considered to be India's safest city for women.
Jagmohan Thakkar is a local resident.
"There is no safety of women in Mumbai just like Delhi in wake of such incidents. The government should take strong steps in this direction as it has failed in the past."
Local police says 20 police teams are pursuing four men who had been identified.
The attack took place shortly before sunset in an abandoned textile mill in Lower Parel, a gritty former industrial district.
The woman was at the mill on an assignment with a male colleague.
Police says the pair were separated by the attackers and her colleague was tied up with a belt while she was assaulted.
A hospital official says the victim who is in her early twenties, was admitted to hospital in south Mumbai where she was in stable condition.
This incident has evoked comparisons with a similar assault in New Delhi in December last year, which led to nationwide protests and a revision of the country's rape laws. |
