BUCHAREST, Sept. 9 (Xinhua) -- Romania is a supporter of a "negotiated settlement" of the Syria issue and a military decision in this case should not be adopted before the submission of the UN report on the alleged chemical weapons attack in Syria, Romanian President Traian Basescu said Monday.

"Romania will be a political partner of the allies," said the president, specifying that Romania embraces the position taken on the occasion of the G20 Summit in St. Petersburg by some countries, which signed a joint statement at the meeting in support of the United States taking action against Syria despite the absence of a UN mandate.
Romania's position on Syria relates to prudence, as long as the results of the UN investigation do not come out, Basescu said on Aug. 28, when he expressed his stance on the issue for the first time.
"Yet, prudence will not go as far as to not displaying solidarity with our allies if the Security Council, NATO or Western countries decide one way or another," pointed out the president.
