英文短篇故事(纽约)160 The Postcard and the Wedding Gift(在线收听) |
Andy's niece was getting married in two weeks. He had never met her fiancé. Her fiancé had mailed Andy a postcard. It was addressed to "Gunnerson." Andy's last name was "Gunderson." The postcard didn't say "Mr. Gunderson." It didn’t say "Andy Gunderson." It just said "Gunnerson." It was a reminder about the wedding date. The postcard irritated him. He bought a wedding card. He wrote his niece a wedding check for $500. This is a big check, he thought. I wonder if she'll appreciate it. He mailed the card. A week later, his niece emailed him. "I got the card and the check, thank you," she wrote. That was it. She never mailed him a thank you card. Six months later, she emailed him again. She and her husband would be visiting New York City soon. Maybe they could all have dinner together, she wrote. "I'll be busy," he replied. |
