She was born on the 7th of may, 1974. She is 1.75m high and weighs 65kg. When she was still a child, she entered the ZheJiang Youth Badminton Association for Badminton training and from there learned her basic skills. In 1990, she made it into the China Badminton Team. She is a skilled player and has killing smashes. This made Ye Zhaoying the reminiscence of legendary player Zhao Jianhua.
In 1992, Ye Zhaoying was under tremendous pressure in the Uber cup. She was then laying the 5th and last match (before that ,China's score was leveled at 2 all with Indonesia). Despite her young and inexperience age, she fought very hare, displaying a wide range of repertoire and manager to conquer her opponent, won the Uber Cup and brought glory to China. From then on, she began her brilliant trip. In 1995, she was able to beat all the opponents and won the World Cup and in the following second year(1997), she succeeded to defend it. What's more, in 1998 she became the Singapore Konica Cup Champion.
叶钊颖1974年5月7日生，身高1.75米，体重65公斤。
少年时就在浙江少年体校受训，打下了扎实的基础，1990年入选国家队。她劈吊刁钻，扣杀凶狠有力，后场进攻，网前球路线多变，技艺精湛。属进攻型打法。
1992年尤伯杯赛中，年仅18岁的叶钊颖在尤伯杯决赛中关键的第五盘(前四盘已战成2:2平)以初生牛犊不怕虎的威势，以2:1夺取了关键的胜利，从而确保中国队蝉联尤伯杯五连冠。
