1. Two convicted killers freed from a Florida prison by phony documents were back in court Sunday on escape charges. They were apprehended together without incident Saturday night at a Panama City motel. The men are being held without bond and are scheduled to make another appearance Friday. 2. At least 30 people were reported killed in a suicide truck bomb attack on a government checkpoint in central Syria Sunday. The state news agency said rebels drove the truck carrying over a ton of explosives into the post at the eastern entrance of the city.
3. Authorities in Australia say they are concerned that winds and high temperatures are about to make devastating wildfires in New South Wales even worse. The fires have already killed one person, destroyed more than 200 homes and damaged another 122 since Thursday.
4. And in Germany, thousands took part in a re-enactment of the Battle of the Nations outside Leipzig, marking the 200th anniversary of the confrontation. Six thousand people from 24 countries re-enacted one of the 19th century's bloodiest battle which ended in Napolean's defeat. |
