Heavy rainfall has hit several major cities and provinces in Southern China. The weather has caused flooding and severe weather warnings in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. And it looks set to continue for the next couple days.
In Yitang village of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, days of heavy rainfall have raised waters to hazardous levels. Flooding covered the only road leading to the local primary school.
Primary school student Yang Gelan said, "The water moves too fast, I am too scared to cross over
The school’s 129 pupils have been told to study at home until further notice.
And the local farmers market wasn’t spared either...
Shop owner Tan Huixiang said, "All the goods here are rice noodles. In total they’re worth around 2 to 3 thousand yuan."
The flooding even collapsed parts of major roads and highways.
Road mentainance worker Wang Shuangyuan said, "You see that the road is cut off, around 20,000 cubic meters have collapsed. This has already stopped all traffic. There are more than two meters of water near the tunnel entrance."
A weather alert continues for the region. The weather bureau warns the rain is expected to persist throughout the next two days. And residents and visitors of Hunan, Jiangxi, Hainan, Guangdong and The Guangxi may feel the blow.
