中国的和平方舟在菲律宾,参加救济工作(在线收听) |
China’s navy hospital ship Peace Ark has anchored in waters off the devastated city of Tacloban in the Philippines. The medical team began treating patients in it’s onboard medical facilities on Monday. "Of course we welcome all help, and as neighbours we are very glad that you are coming over to help us out. It’s very nice of you to send your ships and render us assistance in this time of difficulties," said Commodore Reynaldo Yoma, commander of Philippine Naval Forces Central. "We understand that the Peace Ark has 300 beds with 100 doctors that could do more dedicated medical attention and service to the patients. With the aid of our friends, and in this particular case, China, it gives us hope. It inspires us to pick up the pieces and to begin to rebuild," a Philippine congressman said. The hospital ship arrived in the Philippines on Sunday night and is the first foreign vessel of its kind to reach the worst hit area. The Chinese Foreign Ministry says doctors onboard the Peace Ark, together with an emergency medical team sent by the Chinese government, and an international rescue team dispatched by the Red Cross Society of China, have treated hundreds of patients. The Ministry has also announced that the Red Cross Society of China has delivered a new batch of relief supplies, including 2,000 tents and drugs, to the Philippine National Red Cross. Typhoon Haiyan has killed over 5,200 people and injured 23,000 others in the Philippines. More than 1,600 people are still missing.
