Ten days after being commissioned into the Indian Navy, the aircraft carrier Vikramaditya has left the Russian town of Severodvinsk, embarking on a long voyage to India. The aircraft carrier will make a short stop for refuelling in the White Sea then proceed to the port of Murmansk. The ship will stay there for several days to stock up on supplies, before heading to a naval base in Karwar in southwestern India. The ship is expected to arrive in India by the end of January. Vikramaditya was originally built as Admiral Gorshkov and commissioned in 1987. The refurbishment contract for the ship was signed with Russia in 2004, and initially valued at over 970 million US dollars. The price of modernising the ship later grew to a reported 2.3 billion US dollars, while deadlines were extended time and again.
