Four people have now died as a result of those Queensland floods, a three-year-old boy died when a tree fell on him and his mother in Brisbane. To the north, the city of Bundaberg remains in the grip of its worst flood on record. Critically ill patients at the local hospital have been evacuated to Brisbane. In Ipswich, meanwhile the Bremer River is falling after peaking at 13.9 meters overnight. In Brisbane, residents are preparing for more flooding when the Brisbane river peaks as Karina metioned later this morning. Evacuation orders are in place for parts of Grafton and north Lismore in nothern NSW. The river in Graft is now the highest level ever recorded at around eight meters, the wild weather has now reached Sydney causing localized flooding.
In other news, a bushfire in Victoria's north is expected to keep burning for days. The country fire authority says the fire at Boho is burning in dense and inaccessible bush, making it very difficult for firefighters to attack, crews will spend today building contaminant lines as well as knocking down dead trees.
And police in Brazil has arrested three people in connection with that nightclub fire that killed more than 230 people. It's believed the fire started when a band member lit a flare on stage. Brazil has declared three days of mourning. |
