And when the markets in Europe closed a couple of hours ago, London'sFTSE 100 was up. The Dax and Euro were also higher. In the US, trading comes to a close shortly and the Dow Jones is up, as is the S&P 500. And the Australian dollar is worth around 104 US this morning. It'll also buy you around 66 British pence and just over 123 New Zealand.
American employers added 157,000 new jobs to the payrolls in January, a marginal rise from December's 155,000 gain.There were also 127,000 more jobs created in November and December than previously reported. The jobs growth figures soothed some of the concerns about the outlook for the US economic economy after disappointing fourth quarter GDP figures were released last week.
Unemployment in the Eurozone appears to have stabilized in December. Official data from the EU shows(error in speaking) that nearly 19 million people are out of work in the bloc. That means the unemployment rate has held at 11.7 per cent since November. |
