Police say it's lucky no one was killed when a shot was fired during a home invasion in Sydney's east earlier this morning. Police say three men armed with a pistol and a shotgun forced their way into the house and ordered the two men and one woman inside to lie on the ground. They fled with a quantity of cash.

 

Firefighters in western Australia have worked through the night to control a fire threatening homes in the state's southeast coast. The fire started at Esperance around midday and destroyed the roof of one house and machinery on several properties. Fire crews have built containment lines around another blaze near Boddington in the southwest.

 

Police are trying to establish the cause of a fatal fire in Melbourne's southeast overnight. Fire crews were called to the blaze on Corrigan Road at Noble Park around 20:10. The body of a man was found in the house.

 

British scientists have confirmed a skeleton found under a car park in Leicester is the 15th century king, Richard the third. They say DNA from the bones match descendants of the Monarch's family. Richard was killed in battle in 1485.
