French troops have started disarming fighters in the Central African Republic's capital of Bangui after days of violence in which hundreds were killed. As the disarmament began, there was a brief exchange of gunfire between armed fighters and French soldiers near the airport.

Q1. US President Barack Obama has taped an audio message to the people of the Central African Republic. He said the "citizens of the Central African Republic have the power to choose a different path." What exactly does it mean?

Q2. The US has also decided to help transport African Union peacekeeping troops to the Central African Republic as part of the French-led intervention. Tell us more about the plan. And how do you think it will help ease the situation?
