-Leading the news morning. Prime Minister Kelvin Rudd wants to give Labor party members an equal say on who should be lead up.A special Caucus meeting will be held in a fortnight to consider the radical plan.Mr. Rudd says the change will reduce the power of the faction. -Police are investigating a fatal drive-by shooting in Sydney's southeast. Police say two were standing outside a block or flat in Eastlakes when shots were fired from a car. One of the men died at the scene. The other man is in a serious condition in hospital.
-The Federal Government is still weighing up the cost of moving more quickly to an emissions trading scheme. Deputy Prime Minister Anthony Albanese says the government has received advice on how much this would cost. The carbon tax isn't due to move to a floating price for another two years.
- Egypt interim ruler is urging restrain after more than 50 people were killed outside an army barracks in Cairo. Ali Morsi has ordered an enquiry into the death. The Muslim brotherhood says the army open fire on the supporters while they were holding a sit-in.
-A new report has found a number of people taking up the free national bowel cancer's screening program has fallen. The Australian Institute of Health and Welfare says only 35% of 930,000 people eligible for this screening took part in the past year. And that's down from38% three years ago. |
