-The image that we have of Puritans is these people in very rough fabrics and stern faces, praying all the time, and labouring in the fields. Frankly, just no fun. But in fact, the Puritans were actually rebels. And they saw themselves opposition to the Church of England, and it's more liberal ideas about devotion to God, and so they set out for the new world, and they went in the 1600s to develop and establish their own way of living in their own way of thinking in a new world without resistance.

And what they saw was their life needed more rules.

-Well, to the Puritans, the church was absolutely the center of their entire culture. It was so important that church attendance was meant to t*.

-You will be fined if you didn't go to church, and there was a guide with g* in church with a pole with feathers on it. They would tickle people under the chin, who had fallen asleep during a sermon, and use the other end of that pole to waggle kids who weren't giving reverence.

-This is on top of the fact that public displays of affection were illegal. In fact, a ship captain was put for two hours in the stocks for daring to kiss his wife in public.
