Chinese Embassy to Afghanistan has confirmed with Xinhua searching on the final missing Chinese citizen during the Thursday attack in Afghanistan's capital of Kabul is still underway. 

Two of the missing Chinese nationals are both male, and one of them has been found alive and transferred to a safe place. The embassy confirmed Afghan police is making all efforts in searching the other one, adding that the where-about of the missing one is unclear yet.

Three Chinese nationals, one male and two females, were killed in an apartment building in central Kabul during the attack. However, it remains unclear that if the attack was purposefully targeting on Chinese nationals in Kabul as the investigation is still on-going.

 

Two dead, 9 missing after Chinese boat capsizes

Rescuers have retrieved two bodies and are still searching nine others who went missing after their fishing vessel capsized in sea waters off east China's Shandong Province on Saturday morning.

The city government of Qingdao has mobilized 14 fishing vessels, two rescue helicopters, two military vessels and four maritime enforcement ships for the rescue. 

Divers managed to enter the cabin of the boat, but did not find any trapped fishermen inside.

The rescue effort is still under way. The cause of the accident is being investigated.

 

32 killed, 203 wounded in attacks across Iraq

At least 40 people were killed and 250 others wounded in a wave of violent attacks across Iraq on Saturday, mostly in the capital Baghdad.

Iraq is witnessing its worst eruption of violence in five years, which raises fears that the country is sliding back to a full-blown civil conflict that peaked in 2006 and 2007, when monthly death toll sometimes exceeded 3,000.

 

U.S. drone strikes kill 5 al-Qaida militants in southern Yemen

Up to five al-Qaida militants were killed Saturday evening when U.S. drone strikes hit their vehicles in Yemen's southern province of Lahj.

A local official says the air raid targeted an al-Qaida convoy of two pick-up trucks in the eastern suburbs of Lahj province, killing at least five terrorists at the scene.

 

U.S. to reopen 18 of 19 closed diplomatic missions

The United States will reopen on Sunday 18 of the 19 embassies and consulates shut in anticipation of terror attacks.

The State Department says the U.S. embassy in the Yemeni capital of Sanaa will remain closed "because of ongoing concerns about a threat stream indicating the potential for terrorist attacks emanating from Al- Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula.

 

Persistent rain affects 2.28 mln people in NE China

Pounding rain in northeast China has affected more than 2.2 million people and caused flooding, according to the State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters. 

Rainstorms caused waterlogging in parts of Heilongjiang, Jilin and Inner Mongolia. Rain-triggered flooding has ruined over 1 million hectares of crops or plants, resulting in direct economic losses of 6.6 billion yuan (over 1 billion U.S. dollars).

There have been no reports of casualties. 

Flood prevention work along the Songhuajiang River is underway, with more than 22 thousand people reinforcing dikes, according to the headquarters.

 

Mainland welcomes more Taiwan mayors to boost cross-Strait ties

The Chinese mainland's Taiwan affairs chief Zhang Zhijun says the mainland welcomes and encourages personages from various Taiwan political parties and more mayors to participate in the peaceful development of cross-Strait relations. 

He made the remarks while meeting Chen Chu, the mayor of southern Taiwan's Kaohsiung city, who is visiting the mainland's port city of Tianjin. 

Zhang Zhijun reaffirmed the mainland's stance of supporting exchanges between cities across the Strait, saying the current development of cross-Strait ties manifests that peaceful development is one sure path and the common aspiration of compatriots from both sides of the Taiwan Strait.

 

Drugmaker found to use banned additive for animal medicines

Chinese police have busted a pharmaceutical company that uses harmful additives in animal medicines.

The Ministry of Public Security says eight suspects have been detained and more than 4,000 boxes of such animal medicines were confiscated by police. 

The ministry says it coordinated police across 21 provincial localities in busting the production and distribution network of Jiangxi Hailian animal medicine company. 

The ministry has vowed to severely crack down on such crimes.

 

Chinese police crack 19,000 shoddy goods cases

Chinese police have cracked over 19,000 criminal cases involving production and sale of fake or shoddily made products so far this year.

The Ministry of Public Security says police forces across the nation have throughout this year maintained a tough stance against forgery as well as violations of intellectual property rights. 

To date, police have confiscated counterfeit or shoddily-made products including more than 5,000 tonnes of food and drinks, two billion tablets or bottles of drugs and injections as well as over 53 million pieces of personal care products, machinery and electrical products.
