Secreatry of State John Kerry arrived in Kiev Tuesday for meetings with Ukraine's acting president, prime minister and top parliamentary officials. The visit is a show of support for Ukraine's new leadership as it deals with a Russian military takeover of Crimea over in the southeastern part of the country. Back in Washington, President Barack Obama said Russia's maneuvers cound end up driving countries away from Russia instead of closer to it. He said there is room for Ukraine to be a friend of both the West and of Russia. The U.S. has pledged a one-billion-dollar energy subsidy package for Ukraine.
The seemingly endless winter continued in some parts of the Mid Atlantic and Northeast Tuesday. A blast of Arctic air sent temperatures into the single digits in areas around Baltimore and Washington D.C. Hitting just 4 degrees, BWI Airport broke a record set in 1873.
