no dice 起源于20世纪初,当时赌博在美国的许多州是非法的,而骰子是赌博的重要工具,也是警察抓赌的关键证据。因此当警察抓赌的时候,赌徒们总是要想尽办法把骰子藏起来。法院甚至会因为警察在现场没有找到骰子而不受理案件,或因证据不足而判赌徒无罪。后来人们就用这个俚语来表示不同意、不可能等否定意思,即:“不行,不可以”。因此,当美国人说"No Dice!"时,他/她要表达的意思就是:"I disapprove you!"、"It is impossible!"、"no way!"。
