President Xi Jinping has pledged to resolutely crack down on terrorism and secessionism, and to safeguard national security. The anti-terrorism message on Friday was his sixth in two months.

 

On March 2, President Xi Jinping emphasised the need to understand the seriousness and complexity of the situation on terrorism, and resolutely crack down on violent and terrorist criminal activities with effective measures. Two days later, Xi Jinping said China was willing to cooperate with Russia on fighting terrorism, in a phone conversation with Russian President Vladamir Putin. On the same day, Xi Jinping participated in group discussion with the ethnic minority committee of the country’s top political advisory body. He said the country "must resolutely oppose all behavior that harm ethnic unity, punish such behaviour according to the law, and build strong national unity and social stability."

 

On March 10, in a phone conversation with US President Barack Obama, President Xi Jinping conveyed China’s wish to cooperate with the international community to combat terrorism. On April 9, during his visit to the a special branch of the Chinese armed police, the Falcon Commando, President Xi emphasized the importance of the armed police’s role in the fight against terrorism. He told them to firmly fight all kinds of violent terrorist crimes, and safeguard national security and social stability. On April 25, President Xi remarked at a session of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, that the country must flush out terrorists like pests.
