Australia bids farewell to international military personnel at Perth’s Royal Australian Air Force base on Tuesday. It came after the visual search for a missing Malaysia Airlines jetliner was called off.
"So on behalf of all Australians and all the families of the 239 people on flight MH370, I want to thank you for your dedication, thank you for your efforts, and ask that you fly safely. Thank you very much," said Mark Binskin, vice chief of Australian Defence Force.
Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott said on Monday that the chances of finding floating debris from Flight MH370 had become highly unlikely. The new phase of the search will shift to underwater efforts, using equipment capable of scouring the ocean floor with sophisticated sensors.
The search for the Malaysian plane, which vanished while flying from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing on March 8 with 239 people on board, has so far failed to discover any trace of wreckage. Malaysia, China, Japan, New Zealand, South Korea, Britain and the United States have been assisting Australia in conducting the most expensive search in aviation history._新闻_腾讯网 |
