Full coverage: Chinese Premier Li Keqiang Visits Africa As Chinese Premier Li Keqiang visits Africa, the African Union Commission says it’s keen to see China-Africa relations progress. Premier Li will visit the body’s headquarters in Addis Ababa to plan further cooperation. Talks will also focus on poverty reduction in Africa. Li will deliver a speech there to expound on China's Africa policies. 

 

The African Union building, a prime example of the growing ties between China And Africa. Erastus Mwencha, the deputy chairperson for the AU Commission says, many of the continent’s visions are now becoming reality, with a lot of potential ahead.

 

"I was in China last year, and I met with business people. And I was amazed as to how many of them are ready engaging in contracts in the continent. Whether it is infrastructure, energy or agriculture." Erastus Mwencha, deputy chairperson of African Union Commission, said. 

 

Over the past 10 years, the continent has made tremendous strides in infrastructure development. But it still faces many challenges, key among them, security.

 

"We know for instance in the case of South Sudan, China has been in the forefront. In coming to support our efforts to end this conflict, but also support efforts on the ground, particularly those who are affected." Mwencha said. 

 

China’s Premier Li Keqiang is expected to visit the AU headquarters. Mwencha hopes this visit will further strengthen Sino-African cooperation.

 

"It is one that brings us closer, and one encourage particularly the private sector. Because where the leaders go, the private sector get a cue that is an area that the country would put on its priority." Mwencha said. 

 

Mwencha says, the potential of mutual benefits for both Africa and China is set to grow in the coming years.
