This Scientific American sixty second science, I'm Steve M, got a minute?Fart the eleven third unique third species of the majestic mammals distinct from their larger African cousins and from the Asian elephant. Understanding this animals within the contacts of their complex social system requires examining their vocalizations which is the aim of the elephant listening project associate with records lab before authology were none for its library with animal sounds.  On April 10th, project director Peter R visit NYC and breft report about the project and some of these early findings.  For one thing, the female do most the talking. 

We found from our studies, the male actually don't put vocalized less, much much less than females.  So a lot of what we recording actually are females talking to their babies. In talking to each other, en, and males are sort of hang out and being quiet.
