Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry have discussed the South China Sea issue, among many other issues in a phone call. Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Hua Chunying said that Wang Yi urged Kerry to speak and act cautiously on the issue.
"Wang Yi introduced the historical evolution, facts and truth and China’s position on the relevant issue. He urged the U.S. to view it objectively and fairly, keep relevant promises and speak and act cautiously," Hua said.
"Kerry said the U.S. does not have a position over the issue of territorial sovereignty and jurisdiction, does not take any side, and has no intention of making a judgement. The U.S. hoped that related sides can deal with the issue in a proper way to keep regional peace and stability."
Besides the South China Sea issue, Wang Yi emphasized that boosting China-U.S. relations are the common aim of the two big countries. It is in accordance with the common interests of the two sides.
Wang says that China and the U.S. should enhance cooperation and overcome obstacles, to ensure the relationship between the two countries moves forward in a healthy and stable way. China and the U.S. will have a series of important communications and the two sides should keep in close contact to get positive results.
Kerry says that the U.S. has kept communication and cooperation with China on important issues which is based on the principle of establishing new type of relations between the two big countries.
The two sides also exchanged views on the Korean Peninsula. Wang Yi emphasized that China sticks to the principle of denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and calls for solving issues through dialogue.
China, he said, hoped that related sides can maintain restraint and do more to ease tensions, to pave the way for the re-starting of Six-Party talks.
Kerry said that the U.S. firmly sticks to the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and would like to keep in close contact with China on the issue. |
