Chinese president calls for further economic, trade cooperation with Germany
Chinese President Xi Jinping says China and Germany should further enhance bilateral trade and investment cooperation.
While meeting with German Vice Chancellor and Minister of Economics and Energy Sigmar Gabriel on Saturday, Xi Jinping said economic, trade and investment cooperation, the foundation of China-Germany relationship, should be promoted.
He urged both sides to take the opportunities and step up cooperation.
On the same day, Xi Jinping met with German sinologists, teachers from Confucius Institutes and German students studying Chinese.
He called on China and Germany to expand cultural exchanges to promote mutual understanding.
The Chinese President also watched a football game between Chinese kids and their German peers, encouraging more Chinese young people to play the sport.
 
China to open consulate general in Dusseldorf of Germany
China will open a consulate general in the German city of Dusseldorf.
President Xi Jinping made the announcement during a meeting with Hannelore Kraft, premier of the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW).
The planned consulate general is among Xi Jinping's proposals for further cooperation between China and the NRW, one of the most populous and richest states in Germany.
The Chinese president called on both sides to expand cooperation in such areas as economic transformation and sustainable urban development, where the NRW has made remarkable achievements.
Xi is currently on a state visit to Germany, the third leg of his ongoing Europe tour, which had taken him to the Netherlands and France. After Germany, he will travel to Belgium.
 
Chinese ship in search area looking for suspicious MH370 debris spotted by Chinese aircraft
A Chinese warship has arrived in waters near the place where suspicious objects possibly related to the missing Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 were spotted by Chinese aircraft, but has made no findings yet.
A helicopter taking off from the warship Jingangshan spent two hours in the air looking for the three objects spotted by a Chinese military aircraft earlier on Saturday.
However, there is no confirmation yet of Saturday's sighting, according to navy officials aboard the ship.
 
China never allows Philippines to seize Ren'ai Reef: FM spokesman
Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei says China will never allow the Philippines to occupy the Ren'ai Reef off China's Nansha Islands in any form.
He made the remarks in a written statement in response to the Philippines' action of sending a supply ship to the Ren' ai Reef with journalists on board on Saturday.
Hong Lei said the Philippines' action was aimed to hype up the South China Sea issue, so as to serve its attempt to illegally seize the Ren'ai Reef.

Moderate tremor jolts C China location close-by Three Gorges project
An earthquake measuring 4.7 on the Richter Scale hit Zigui County, central China's Hubei Province early Sunday morning according to the China Earthquake Networks Center.
No further information is available.
The earthquake came after a 4.3-magnitude tremor on Thursday hit the same area, which is about 30 km from the Three Gorge Dam, the country's largest multi-functional water control system.
Normal operation of the project was not affected after Thursday's quake.
 
Gov't demands chemical transportation safety
The Office of Work Safety Commission of the State Council has demanded strict safety standards when transporting dangerous chemicals, in the wake of a deadly explosion.
Enterprises transporting dangerous chemicals should maintain vehicles to a high standard, according to a statement from the office.
The statement says local governments, departments and organizations should check road tunnels for any potential hazards.
 
China Will Set up Food and Drug Police
China will establish a criminal investigation organ to regulate the country's food and drug safety according to the Security Administration Bureau of the Ministry of Public Security.
Due to the upsurge of food and drug scandals, as well as cover-ups and corruption in recent years, a team of professional law enforcement police are being called for to deal with the issues concerning the safety of people's health nationwide.
Suspected producers and sellers of counterfeit food or pharmaceutical products will face judicial liability rather than administrative penalties.
 
China reports 3 more human H7N9 cases
Three more people have been confirmed to be infected with H7N9 bird flu in three Chinese provinces.
China has reported more than 120 human H7N9 cases this year, including at least 36 deaths.
Jiangsu relaxes one-child policy
East China's Jiangsu Province has relaxed its family planning policy by allowing couples to have a second baby if either parent is an only child.
According to an amendment passed by the local legislature, couples wishing to have a second child have to meet only one condition that the wife should be older than 24 years old.
The results of a survey conducted by the provincial government showed that about 40 percent of the families that are eligible to have a second child as a result of the policy change, are willing to have another baby.
