As the critical 72-hour rescue period ends, authorities have launched sanitation works and preventive measures to avert any possible outbreak of an epidemic in the quake affected zone.

In response to continuous high temperatures and rain since the earthquake hit Ludian county, the earthquake relief headquarters dispatched anti-chemical troops to guard against a possible epidemic or major disease. Many health clinics were also set up to treat patients and monitor the disease in affected areas.

Currently no epidemic or contagious diseases have been reported in the region.
