As Paul mentioned Canada's capital Ottawa is being locked down after shootings in three locations. A soldier has been shot dead at the National War Memorial. A gunman then ran into the nearby Parliament Building where he exchanged fire with police. A gunman has been shot dead but it's not clear whether there was more than one attacker. This is an ongoing operation. We are asking members of the public to stay away from the downtown core. People in the downtown core are asked to follow instructions of their buildings' management.

Back home and security of Australia's Parliament will be reviewed in the wake of the Canadian shooting. Speaker B. Bishop is expecting a brief this morning. Federal police have increased patrols around Parliament House and screening measures have also been tightened.
Three members of the same family have been shot dead in an apparent neighborhood dispute in central Victoria. Police were called to a property in Wedderburn last night after reports of shots being fired. They found one body and began negotiating with the man in a nearby house. The man surrendered peacefully around midnight. Two more bodies were found on a nearby property.
The Emergency Committee of the World Health Organization is meeting in Geneva to discuss the ongoing efforts to tackle the Ebola epidemic. The committee is looking at screening measures at borders and whether stricter travel regulations should be put in place. |
