熊猫宝宝泰山一周岁啦(在线收听

You just know what mama panda's thinking, how could it have happened so fast, how could the National Zoo's most beloved baby be one-year-old already?

Baby panda,baby.Moving, moving...
He's moving. Yes. That's right.

Pretty impressive for a guy who started out as a squirmy blind pink thing. Nicknamed Butterstick for his size, he was as adorable as a bar of lard. But he's grown up and cuter, quickly.

At one point, his keepers called Tai Shan the incredible expanding panda.

"He,he was pretty much doubling in,in size every week."

Chief vet Susan Murray marveled at his remarkable birth and all the panda-mania that's followed.

"There is something about him that is so charismatic that the instant you see him and you are hooked."

"Did it sound? "

The tiny giant panda sold tons of trinkets, boosted zoo attendance to new records and even created a new species, the panda-parazzi.

"So I'm one of the weirdoes, huh."

He said it, but how would you describe a guy who comes almost every day and on a typical morning shoots more than 1100 pictures of the bear just for fun.

"Is this bordering on the obsessive?"

"Well, perhaps, it's a bit obsessive, yes."

He's not alone though most visitors are content to just woo and oh and ponder what to get a bear who has everything.

I don't know. Maybe more bamboo than he already gets. A brother or a sister?

Now don't spoil the surprise. It's a special fruit and veggie ice-cake to celebrate Tai Shan's first year and all the excitement he's brought to the zoo.

For the Saturday Early Show, Joe Chen, CBS News, Washington.
