Katie Couric: For nearly 3 years, Matt and Christine Roe saw double with their identical twin daughters, and when doctors told them Christine was pregnant again, and this time with triplets, they simply couldn't believe it. And for good reason the odds of that happening are about 1 in 15 million. All 7 members of the Roe family join us now from their home in Eau claire Wisconsin, Christine, Matt, Alexandra, Hailey, Jacob, Tylor, and Nicolas. Good morning to all of you.
Christine & Matt: Morning.
Katie Couric: So, Christine, I mean you must, must have been pretty surprised when you got the news that you were carrying triplets after already having identical twins at home. What was your reaction?
Christine: It was just that complete shock. I think, my husband says having the twins were a little more shocking than having the triplets, being first time parents with the girls, but still, working on three boys is a lot of work.
Katie Couric: Now, so good, your daughters are identical twins, and your sons are identical triplets, is that right?
Christine: Yeah!
Katie Couric: So that is a 1 in 15 million chance of that happening. I understand Matt, that you are pushing for quadruplets when you found out they were triplets.
Matt: They said it's gonna be three. It might as well be four. It won't change anything.
Katie Couric: What is it that Matt and Christine then to go from having 2 kids to having 5 kids in one fell swoop, how tough has it been to tell your girls apart Alexandra and Hailey?
Matt: Ah, that's been fairly easy for us, cause ALex's always been a little bit heavier than Hailey.
Katie Couric: Are you gonna give her a complex, Matt?
Matt: I don't think she minds.
Katie Couric: Meanwhile what about
Christine: With the boys though, we haven't found anything yet with the boys that we can really tell them apart with yet, so mark on the bottom of the foot from now.
Katie Couric: Really? Is that what you are doing, really?
Christine: Yeah. we got initials, each initial on the bottom of their foot with the shopping markers so..
Katie Couric: Can we see it? Can you show us one of their feet right now?
Christine: I could probably get Jocabson.
Matt: Ok.
Katie Couric: That is a very good idea to put sharpy because it doesn't come off when you give them a bath, right, it takes a while.
Matt: Yeah!Takes a little bit.
Christine: Yeah, it can take a couple of days,
Katie Couric: And they're 6 weeks old now, right?
Matt: Yeah.
Katie Couric: How much did they weight when they were born Matt, as Christine undoes the little one Zee?
Matt: They were about 3 and a half pounds.
Katie Couric: Wow! Any health problems?
Christine: Here is a little J.
Katie Couric: That's so cute. That's very smart.
Matt: Ah, no, they're doing very well.
Katie Couric: Now how are they sleeping?
Matt: They're up about every 2 to 3 hours.
Christine: Been eating good.
Katie Couric: Well, it's... that's great, well you have an adorable family, and the girls are certainly well behaved and maybe they are just exhausted to be up at this hour,
Christine: They got snacks!
Katie Couric: You know, what do you think? Do you think maybe the next time, next time around Christine you can have identical quadruplets?
Christine&Matt: Not next time. Oh! God!
Katie Couric: By the way, Jayvy Levins who is our audio person remarked about how amazing Christine, you look after having these 3 babies only 6 weeks ago.
Christine: Thank you.
Katie Couric: So, well, congratulations on your new family, we are very very happy for you, and thanks for talking with us this morning what's ALex or, who is that? ALex or Hailey with her back to us.
Christine: That's ALex.
Matt: Yeah.
Christine: She says she has right snack.
Katie Couric: Oh, good, good, again congratulations, thanks for talking with us.
Christine: Thank you so much.
Matt: Thank you.
