Jury selection got underway Monday in the trial of accused Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev. The process to window the pool of 1200 potential jurors will take weeks. The trial is expected to begin on January 26 and last 3 to 4 months.

 

Two prospects from the U.S. ski team were killed Monday in an avanlanche while skiing near their European training base in the Austrian Alps. 20-year-old Ronnie Berlack and 19-year-old Bryce Astle died in the incident near Rettenbach Glacier in the venue for the annual season opening world cup races.

 

Florida's first same-sex weddings were held Monday in Miami-Dade County after a circuit judge lifted a stay on her July ruling banning gay marriages. At mid-night Tuesday, Florida becomes the 36th state where same-sex marriages are leagl statewide.

 

And drivers in a normally tranquil Israeli coastal town encountered an unlikely traiffic snarl, an emu on the run. Authorities say he escaped from a private farm.
