Jill Carroll's abductors set a Friday deadline for killing her unless all Iraqi women being held in military custody were released. A Muslim advocacy group has sent a message to the kidnappers saying that harming her will do no good at all.

2. Riot police fire tear gas and beat pro-democracy activists in Nepal Saturday. They protest the King’s seizure of absolute power last year. At least 300 people were arrested and 50 injured. Police fire several rounds of tear gas shells to disperse groups of protestors chanting "Down with autocracy, we want democracy!".

3. In a tiny West Virginia coal mining town, intense heat and fire flare-ups are hampering efforts to rescue two missing miners. They haven't been seen or heard from since fire broke out in the mine late Thursday.
