During a joint news conference with Afghan President Hamid Karzai, Bush also says it is naive to believe that the war in Iraq has made the US less safe.
2. Saddam Hussein's genocide trial erupted into a shouting match between Saddam and the judge again Tuesday. The tension escalated until the former Iraqi leader was ejected from the courtroom for a second straight day. The trial was adjourned until October 9.
3. Calmer winds may help firefighters in Ventura County, California get a better handle on one of the state's longest burning fires. The Day Fire has scorched 223 square miles since it was sparked by someone burning debris on Labor Day.
4. And in Oklahoma, "Good baby." man's best friend is credited with saving her owner's life after a burning candle caught his home on fire. Meadow woke her sleeping owner by jumping on his bed and tugging on him until he woke up and got out. He is in intensive care. Almost everything in the home was destroyed.
